Manifest. What does that word mean?
It’s all I’ve been hearing in podcasts, books and even thrown into conversations with friends. My understanding of the word was:
Manifest = Imagine it and you can get it!
Hmmm…. This sounds ridiculous and a bit ignorant, right?
Well, that’s what I thought till I decided to pick up the little orange book and I soon learnt that Manifesting isn’t just imagining, but it’s a daily practice you need to actively engage with to become your ‘ideal self’.
So, why did I pick up this book?
I was having lunch with a friend, laughing about how we need to manifest a man for me. Afterwards, we visited O’Mahony’s bookshop in Limerick (amazing bookshop) and it was like the little book was waiting for me.
Though I say ‘little’, this book is far beyond that minimizing label. Roxie Nafousi says so much in few words; a talent and necessity in today’s fast paced society. She lists 7 clear steps to living your ideal life. Then explains the reasoning behind each, provides writing activities to assist the reader on their manifesting journey while drawing from her own experience.
Nafousi asks the reader to create a vision board without any limits and to really get creative with your ideas. I loved this activity because it allows you to carelessly access your inner child’s wants and dreams while also contemplating your own values in life at this time. It’s a perfect start to help you realise what you enjoy, what you are passionate about and what matters most to you in your life. Once you have figured this out, it lays a foundation for the journey of manifesting.
The real practice is in how you apply these wants and values to your everyday life so you can get closer to your ‘ideal self’. Nafousi provides extremely helpful tools to guide the reader in their everyday practice. These include:
- Questioning the language you use when speaking about yourself and your dreams
- Practicing gratitude in your everyday life instead of living for a fantasy in the future
- Placing boundaries and knowing your self worth
- Trusting in yourself and the universe rather than acting out of desperation i.e. Don’t settle
- Change envy to inspiration
The most important point is your life will NEVER look exactly like your vision board but it can look pretty damn similar if you act in line with your values and dreams. You have to learn to accept that some things are out of your control, but you can control how you act and speak to yourself/others everyday.
I highly reccomend giving this little orange book a read because everyone deserves to be living like their best self. I will talk more about how I applied this to my own life in next Wednesday’s podcast on ‘A Good Kind of Scary’:
