Who were you when you were born into this world? Who is hiding beneath the layers of social conditioning?
What lights up your heart and soul? What saddens you? What angers you? What delights you?
It’s okay if you don’t know. Sometimes we are so caught up in the busyness, we forget to feel into it. Years spent trying to ‘fit in’ and ‘be normal’ and ‘accepted’ can block us from tapping into these true feelings of who we are at our core.
I recently cried in a doctor’s office because it hurt when they took a blood sample, and I felt proud of myself!! Such a strange thing to smile after crying, but I had gotten so used to bottling up my tears for years, holding back uncomfortable emotions, just like Cameron Diaz in ‘The Holiday’. But every repressed emotion builds up brick walls inside of us: one by one we layer concrete walls around our heart to distance us and others from what we are really feeling.
But beneath the walls and beneath the blankets, you are there, hiding and scared. Beneath the makeup and the job titles and the responsibilities, there you are. A living breathing soul just trying to stay safe in this modern world.
Remember, it is safe to be you. It takes time to connect back with yourself when you’ve spent so long distancing yourself. Please keep being your beautiful authentic weird self. Removing one brick at a time and letting your light shine. Being gentle with yourself in the process because bricks are heavy.
We need more of you!
Here’s a song that makes me feel happy and connected. Have a beautiful day.
