Be Mindful this Christmas

It’s that magical time of the year, when snow is falling, couples are cuddling by the fire wrapped in a cosy blanket, and children are beaming with excitement leaving cookies out for Santa Clause. What’s not to love? Other than the fact that Christmas is never as perfect as the movies. Sure, wouldn’t it be great if this Winter, all single women could be as lucky as Cameron Diaz, and have a drunken Jude Law stumble through their door? These fairytale Christmas Rom-com’s can be extra depressing for people who are alone this Christmas. So it’s important to be extra mindful of people who will be spending Christmas alone this  year.

Whether it’s those who have lost a loved one recently, a family member living abroad, or someone who is homeless and alone this Christmas; maybe even a friend might be feeling a little more down this year. It’s so easy to ignore other people’s pain when we are focused on Christmas shopping, nights out and having an AMAZING time on holidays.

So, before you post an Instagram picture, flashing all of your beautiful gifts, or boasting about your amazing life as you’re travelling abroad, maybe consider those who are struggling with money problems or with their own inner battles. Think about the rippling effect that these toxic posts can have on other people, and ask what is this post really saying?

It’s important to enjoy Christmas with friends and family, isn’t that what Christmas is really about, spending time with the people we love? Instead of sharing your life with the world, consider catching up with an old friend or sending out Christmas cards to those you care about. Little thoughtful acts of kindness are what really count. If you’re feeling extra charitable, maybe see if you could volunteer with local charities, or visit an elderly neighbor, whom might enjoy some company.

Just some points to be considerate of this Christmas. If you’re feeling a bit down through the Winter months, talking to someone is the best thing you can do. Keeping a journal can also make a huge difference 🙂

  1. I agree being mindful is so important during the christmas season because you truly never know what other people are going through. This post really changed my perspective on this- thank you.
